Fiction or Nonfiction

Examine the characteristics of the books to determine their genre. Students can sort
the books as fiction or nonfiction.
It is also fun to sort a collection of various
pumpkins (plastic, stuffed, ceramic, along with a variety of real pumpkins). Students
can identify the features of the fake pumpkins similarly to fiction texts.
Story Sequencing
Use a flow map to help students retell the stories you read.
(First, Next, Then,
Last… In the beginning, Meanwhile, Finally…etc.)
To add a “pumpkin twist,” write students’
ideas on a leaf or pumpkin. Use ribbon to create a “vine” to hang the leaves in order.
