The great thing about Vollmer Farm’s CSA program is that all the fruits and vegetables from our farm are 100% certified organic. This means no pesticide residues and produced using earth-friendly methods! Although we do supplement the boxes with items we don’t grow, such as cantaloupes, peaches and watermelons, we get them from some fabulous neighboring farms that we know personally and they also use sustainable growing practices.
We offer three options for our members to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from April to August! Be sure to check out the harvest calendar to see a list of produce from Farmer John’s gardens and their expected harvest dates. Also check out a sample share of what you might expect. We typically include 5-7 different items in the small and large share.
- Small Share-box of fruit and vegetables packed fresh here at the farm and is suggested for 1-2 adults. Boxes are delivered weekly to a neighborhood near you!
- Large Share-box of fruit and vegetables packed fresh here at the farm that is suggested for 2 adults and 2 children. Boxes are delivered weekly to a neighborhood near you!
- Market Share-choose what you want, when you want from our farm market in Bunn and our pick-your-own fields! We’ll do the financial tracking for you and email you a weekly statement of what your balance is. You enjoy the freedom of choosing what you want, when you want it and how much!
Every effort will be made to provide members with a variety of produce each week; however, due to the unpredictability of farming, we cannot guarantee every item listed in the calendar will be available each week.
In the CSA program, members have the opportunity to purchase a “share” of the harvest before the growing season begins. This creates several rewards for both members and the grower.
- Be Healthy! Treat your family to fresh produce every week. Grown and picked just down the road! There’s nothing as good as eating “in season.”
- Connect with the farm and farmer that grows your food. Be a part of the family farm through “Real Farm, Real Fun!” work/play days offered during our growing season.
- Support a clean environment and conscientious business practices.
- Provide-Your prepaid membership helps the farm with start up costs and allows Farmer John to provide you with items from the gardens for five months of the year, without worrying where items in your local grocery store come from or how long the produce has been picked.
- Prepare-We’ll send you an e-letter each week before you receive your box. It includes a note from Farmer John with an update, recipes and more to help you make plans for your upcoming share.
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal (and in our farm’s case) organic, fruits and vegetables directly from a farmer.
Community Supported Agriculture is an international movement that is providing people with an alternative to the global food system. Over 2,000 CSA’s have formed in the United States since 1985. The movement arose as a local and human scale response to the worldwide damage to farms, farm communities, and the environment, which has occurred with large scale conventional agriculture. In a region that is “developing” as rapidly as ours, making small farms viable is one way to assure there will be agricultural land, green space, and locally grown food for many years to come. The CSA program seeks to restore direct contact between farmers and consumers, putting a human face on agriculture and the food supply.
Vollmer Farm is a fifth generation family owned and operated farm located in Bunn, NC, in Franklin County. We have been selling our fresh farm products in the Triangle area for over 25 years. Your membership in our CSA gives us the ability to offer our delicious, nutritious, and local organically-grown produce to our farm friends.
Community Supported Agriculture is a direct connection between local farmers and consumers who care.
We've reached our limit for 2010, so CSA registration has closed for the season.
Sign up for our waiting list, just in case someone changes their mind.
Fabulous! Congratulations! Welcome to the family! It’s easy to join, just three easy steps:
- Decide which share will fit your family best, the small, large or market.
- Read and acknowledge the Member/Grower Agreement.
- Print out the registration, fill it out and mail or FAX it to us along with your payment.
It’s that easy!
Once we receive your registration we’ll send you a confirmation and follow-up information and you’ll be added to the 2010 CSA family. Every Saturday beginning April 3rd, you’ll receive our “Members Only” e-letter with a message from Farmer John and a “heads up” on what’s coming in the next share. We’ll also send you recipes, invitations and more!
